What shoe cleaning covers
Good shoe cleaning treats each material differently — mesh, canvas, suede, leather and rubber all need different handling — instead of putting the whole shoe through a washing machine, which can break down glue and warp soles. Uppers, midsoles and outsoles each need attention, and laces and insoles are best cleaned separately. If a pair has a tricky stain or a delicate finish, send a photo on WhatsApp before pickup.
Why not just machine-wash sneakers?
Machine washing and tumble drying can loosen the glue that holds the sole, shrink leather, and leave mesh with yellow water stains as it dries. Leather and suede in particular should never be soaked. Cleaning by material takes longer but keeps the shape and finish of the shoe.
Keeping shoes clean between cleanings
- Wipe off mud and dust the same day before it sets into the fabric.
- Stuff wet shoes with newspaper and dry them in shade with air flow — direct sun can yellow white soles.
- During the monsoon, keep a separate pair for commuting and store good sneakers with silica gel packets.
- Use a soft brush, not a hard one, on mesh and knit uppers.
